About
Maria Crofoot Bowling’s memoir Heel, Toe, Push: A Backpacker’s Journey is about her journey from soccer mom to backpacker. Bowling has completed the Appalachian Trail segments in Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia. She is currently covering sections in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
Maria is most likely to be found hiking sections of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia or criss-crossing the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff, Arizona. Her love of the desert southwest began with a 14-day raft trip through the Grand Canyon in 2004. Bowling's short stories have been published in Timber Creek Review, Reflections, Red Wheelbarrow and, soon, Clinch Mountain Review. She holds master's degrees in Education (the University of New Hampshire), English (Radford University), and creative writing (Southern New Hampshire University). Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Bowling divides her time between homes in Radford, Virginia and Flagstaff, Arizona.
